MP develops Hanuwantiya Island to promote water tourism

Madhya Pradesh Tourist Development Corporation (MPTDC) has developed Hanuwantiya Island, a tourism destination to promote water tourism in the state. The island is located in the reservoir of Indira Sagar Dam on river Narmada. It has 10 cottages for tourists. One cruise and two motorboats are also arranged along with the water sports complex.

The tourism corporation has constructed a boat club and restaurant at Hanuwantiya with an investment of Rs 8 crore. 

MPTDC will organise a Water Festival at the island from February 12 to 21. For this, a tourism tent city with over 120 tents will be set up.
The festival is being organised at a grand-scale to promote water tourism in the state as desired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, with his secretary and MPTDC Commissioner H R Rao personally monitoring the preparations.

MPTDC has also decided to conduct a 10 day water fest as a part of promotional program of state water tourism. The fest named ‘Jal Mahotsava will be occurring in Hanuwantia Island in Indrasagar dam from February 12-21. Indrasagar dam is one of the biggest water bodies in the state. It has become even more beautiful with about 10 islands there.

To mark the beginning, first three days will witness the national convention of adventure sports by Adventure Tour Operator Association of India. They will be organizing adventure water sports activities along with other adventure sports like trekking, mountain cycling etc. Island activities will include bird watching, treasure hunt, night camps, cultural activities, volley ball, tug of war, paragliding, hot air balloon, para motor, kite flying etc. Special cottages are already built in the island for the convenience of the tourists and instead of cabs and other transport, bullock carts will be available for roaming around nearby villages and tourist destinations.
