The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation
together with Ministry of Tourism instigated the Visit Maldives Year 2016
campaign on 1st January 2016 by welcoming the very first tourist to
visit the country of the new celebratory year.
The Acting Managing Director of MMPRC, Haris Mohamed gifted
a free holiday from Outrigger Konotta to Kate Holmes from United Kingdom, in an
event organised to honor and mark the first arrival of a tourist in Maldives. A
special stamp of the celebratory year was also launched in the event. As an
indication of the special campaign it will be stamped on all the passports
along with the arrival stamp throughout 2016.
The first tourist received a grand welcome as he was
accompanied with boduberu and dancers to the VIP arrival hall. The staffs of
MMPRC and MOT were dressed in traditional Maldivian dresses and the event
exhibited Maldivian tradition and uniqueness. The tourism industry also plans
to celebrate the arrival of the 500,000th visitor of this year.
Visit Maldives Years 2016 is a yearlong campaign aimed to
strengthen and heighten the country as a tourist destination. The nationwide
campaign will be celebrated in many colorful events. The competitions and
attractive prizes are aimed to create a hype to visit Maldives and experience
the sunny side of life.
