Sri Lanka benefits from Kerala liquor policy

Be it meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions ( MICE) and weddings, the venues have all been promptly changed from Kerala to Sri Lanka. Ever since the recent Supreme Court verdict endorsing Kerala's liquor policy, the state is losing out to Sri Lanka on the tourism front.

The inability to serve hard liquor to tourist is a big problem that Kerala is facing right now in terms of tourism. As per the current policy of the Kerala government, only five star hotels are allowed to serve hard liquor. The other hotels can serve only beer and wine.

However the policy is a setback to MICE tourism in the state. Although foreign tourists could be satisfied by beer and wine, both foreign and domestic tourism will suffer from the liquor policy as tourists mostly prefer hard liquor.

This will in turn result in unemployment as Tourism industry provides one out of four jobs in the state.
