Sikkim declared as the first organic state of India

Sikkim was declared as the first organic state by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. He made this declaration while inaugurating a National Conference on Sustainable Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare in Gangtok, Sikkim. The Prime Minister handed over to the Chief Minister of Sikkim two commendations for its journey towards total organic farming. He also handed over commendations for two districts of Sikkim for achieving 100 percent coverage of soil health cards. 

The Prime Minister described Sikkim as an example of resolve despite difficulties and struggle, towards organic agriculture. The whole world had recognised this effort of the farmers of Sikkim, he said. He said the winds of this organic effort would now spread across the country.
 

During the conference, a report on ‘Indian Organic Sector Vision 2025’ was presented by Association of Indian Organic Industry (AIOI), the apex body for organic food producers in India. Raj Seelam, Founder, 24 Mantra Organic, India’s leading organic food brand, in his capacity as the Chairman of the AIOI was instrumental in shaping the report .
